Mauro Micheli's arrival
A year after Rolls Royce purchases one hundred per cent of the Riva Shares, Gino Gervasoni – that married Carlo Riva's sister – leaves the yard after 41 year's activity ending the Riva family's presence.
In the same year, 1991, the 58' Bahamas is presented at the Genova Nautical Fair. It is the first boat designed by Mauro Micheli.
Riva becomes Italian once again
The Ferretti Group acquires the Riva yard on 1 May 2000, thus becoming Italian once again.
It is the English finance company Stellican-Investment Bank, founded and managed by Stephen Julius, that had bought it from Vickers Rolls-Royce in 1999, to sell it.
Norberto Ferretti has a very precise program and that is, to relaunch both the product and brand, focusing once again on quality, design, style and unique products.
Riva's entrance into the third millennium is celebrated with the largest classic boat show ever; over one hundred representatives of all Riva models parade on Lake Iseo on 10 September, led by Carlo Riva and Norberto Ferretti aboard.
years have passed since when founder Pietro Riva with great skill and his tools of the trade, began repairing boats and fishermen longboats at Lake Iseo. In fact way back in 1842 we trace our roots in the history of our brand to when this original simple carpenter began his move to Sarnico. At Sarnico he was distinguished for his unusual craftsmanship that he handed down to his son Ernesto who in the early '900s used the family skills to develop and manufacture new and bigger sized boats such as rowing and sailing boats and for the transport of goods. In actual fact it was the heir Serafino, with his great passion for motor-boats who acted as a driving force for the Riva brand. The success of its outboards in national and international competition excelled and caught the attention on the whole boating world. The innovator and the man of insight which led to a big watershed in the company, was the great-grandson Carlo born in 1922, exactly one hundred years after his great-grandfather Pietro. Twice awarded the prestigious Pioneer of Boating award by Ucina, this creative boating entrepreneur must be praised for having invented, drawn and realized motor-boats distinguished for The Italian Style: for the elegance of form, for the excellence of materials and especially for its extraordinary safety at sea. In the '50s he launched the brand Riva all over the world with his fantastic racing boats in mahogany which even today are the object of the collector's desire. The success of Riva is in these particulars which are in tandem with each other and have remained a constant for over more than a century of shipbuilding. And it is for this reason that a Riva is a Riva, always. However, it is not easy to explain the duration and the connotation of a brand if other fundamental aspects are not considered: love and passion of the people who every day during all these 170 years push ahead tradition, innovating and help to increase the Riva myth throughout the world.
To be ahead of others in a Riva, driving it and finally being able to own it: three experiences so exciting that to describe them only in words becomes very difficult. But none of these match the unique sensation of being able to acquire the brand of Dolce Vita, the sign that more than any other has changed the face of the nautical world. Having always sailed towards the town of Riva as towards a horizon which I desired to reach, I looked on Carlo Riva as a teacher I've come to thank for his professionalism and for his humanely. In year 2000 the brand was acquired and so I reached my goal. Likewise, the entrance of Riva in the Ferretti Group gave an up thrust towards other and more prospective ambitions. Together, we have worked tirelessly, passing with determination and effort moments of calm and storm. With the precious of Officina Italiana Design we have renewed all boats, reinterpreting the myth and giving continuity to the brand's distinctive characteristics. After twelve years of synergy, we proudly blow out 170 birthday candles for this one of the most unique shipyards in the world that has become a legend. To be up to Riva was a challenge. Even today we can say that we have dared and won. For this reason, we can say: Happy birthday Riva!
